Specialist Areas:  Steve believes that all of us benefit from learning how to use our innate resources effectively as this is the fastest route to emotional health and clear thinking. He therefore applies this approach to bring about long lasting and effective change for those experiencing a
wide range of emotional and behavioural difficulties eg anger, anxiety, stress, depression, phobias, PTSD etc. as well as for those seeking life-coaching and personal development.

Steve became concerned about traditional treatments for emotional and behavioural disturbance such as long-term therapy and some drug
based treatments for depression etc. whilst at university. The lack of a scientific justification for much therapy, the absence of effective treatment for most young people labelled 'socially, emotionally and behaviourally disturbed' or adults diagnosed as having a 'personality disorder' led him
to a career where he eventually became Head of Education of a leading secure unit.

Steve's ongoing research into effective, cost-conscious, practices led
him to develop many innovative approaches to working with disturbed young people both in the community and in secure settings. In turn these led to considerable success and recognition from Ofsted, the Youth Justice Board and other expert bodies (see public.me.com/osmondsteve).

Steve recognized that modern discoveries in neuroscience of relevance
to psychology would have profound implications for his practice and this led him to the human givens approach which, based upon the latest findings from neurobiology and psychological research, had a clear
validity and relevance that he hadn't found elsewhere.

In spite of his successes, Steve felt that working within the confines of
the public sector did not support the innovation and initiative required for effective practice and he has recently moved into the private sector offering therapeutic and consultancy services.

As a therapist Steve now uses the latest findings from neuroscience regarding human needs and resources in all of his work. He spends a large part of his time in the Lake District but travels when required. He
also intends to write about effective practice in a number of fields.

Steve also works with a number of organizations offering advice and training as well as therapy. He is particularly interested in developing the vision and practice of organizations based upon the resource-needs understanding of the 'givens' of human nature, leading to emotionally intelligent organizations that use the full potential of staff in meeting organizational goals.

Steve is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts as well as of the Human Givens Institute and is a board member of TiPPs (Theatre in Prisons and Probation) a charity based at the University of Manchester with strong links to the drama department. He is also involved with local outdoor-pursuits based charities.
