Secretary of State's speech offers
great opportunities for HG Graduates

Following the wild violent disorder, murder and looting in the Summer, Eric Pickles, the Secretary of State, appears to open the door for a new organising idea for dealing with “problem families”. Of course it is obvious to those of us with knowledge about the givens of human nature that, if society is to successfully reduce the levels of anti-social behaviour, family breakdowns, mental illness and addictions, all our children need to be raised in environments where their innate psychological needs are met in healthy, balanced ways. This should lie at the heart of any drive to help disturbed members of current and future generations fulfil their potential.

Social services, schools and politicians would therefore all benefit from an understanding of the human givens. So it is of interest that, in a tough speech to local council leaders, where he bemoaned the waste of money, time and people’s lives caused by inadequate approaches many services use to try and tackle these social issues, Pickles said, “If you have ideas to organise services better – let's hear them. If you need more freedom over budgets – make your case. Nothing is off the table. Push us. Challenge us. Make us an offer we can't refuse.”
So push the HG agenda wherever you can.

You can read the text of his short but succinct talk here.

So get in touch with The Secretary of State and the Government’s ‘Troubled Families Unit’ as well as local officials and make the case for the bio-psycho-social human givens approach to turning lives around, strengthening families and making communities more meaningful. Don’t let anyone put you or HG down. We live in troubling times and that is just the moment when great steps forward can be made. Persist!

A great Christmas gift for those hungry for meaning

Now people have found time to read Godhead: The Brain’s Big Bang – The explosive origin of creativity, mysticism and mental illness we can offer a selection of quotes from emails Joe and Ivan have received directly, and from Amazon reviews:

“If Human Givens sparkles with insight,
'Godhead
' blazes with imagination.”

---------------------------------

“I’d just like to offer you both my congratulations on the long-awaited
'Godhead'. It is a brilliant and brave book, and must be the most rewarding book I’ve ever read. It really is a tour de force and astonishes with its dazzling originality in trying to answer all the big questions ever asked.”

-------------------------------------------------------------------

“At last, a book that finally brings science and mysticism together with an explanation that is more than just plausible. I'd read the first Human Givens book (which I loved) but 'Godhead' takes us far deeper…”

-------------------------------------------------------------------

“I wasn't expecting it to have such a strong impact (you could say it has generated a lot of self-consciousness!) Because of that I've started  again from the beginning, this time reading it more closely and hopefully getting a better understanding of your extraordinary range of ideas – no wonder it took you seven years to write.”

-------------------------------------------------------------------

“I have been reading in this area for over a decade and I can say that this is the most open, informative and possibly important book I have read to date. The themes dealt with here don’t get any more ambitious. Life, the Universe and everything.”

-------------------------------------------------------------------

“Well thought through and probably world leading in its hypothesis.”

-------------------------------------------------------------------

“There are many books that attempt to deal with God, spirituality, our origins, and the very nature of being human. Most dabble, and few reach the mark. This one is for real.”

-------------------------------------------------------------------

“This is a remarkable book which has both a beauty as well as an energy which is as metaphorically bracing as any rollercoaster ride.”

-------------------------------------------------------------------

“An astonishing book, rarely have I read one as rich or thought-provoking – it covers an amazing amount of history, archaeology, psychology, physics and even mysticism and pulls them all together in the most powerful and convincing way. I couldn't put it down and read it into the early hours of the morning, night after night.”

-------------------------------------------------------------------

“… a practical tool for anyone who sincerely wishes to know how one 'ticks', and better understand his or her own purpose in this life.”

-------------------------------------------------------------------

“For these writers, consciousness is of universal importance, not an epiphenomenon, which I've always thought must be so, but their take on how consciousness evolved came as a revelation to me. They also show how mystical lore and modern physics mesh together in a clearer way than any other book I've come across. I found the poetry
extracts seen through their eyes astonishingly beautiful and deeply moving.”

-------------------------------------------------------------------

“I don't think I will ever look at life, the universe and our part in it in quite the same way again.”

Judging from these early responses, Godhead looks like being a ‘must have’ Christmas present you could give to anyone you know who has an innate need for understanding the deeper meaning in life.

Reserve the weekend:
12th–13th May 2012 for the next HG Conference

Psychologically toxic work practices in caetextic organizations are a major cause of stress and mental illness and the theme for our next conference is 'Human Givens in the Workplace: How to turn the world of work around'. The event will be open to anyone interested in the HG approach, and we look forward to seeing you there. More details will follow.

One last thought...

“You don't have to hold a position in order to be a leader.”
