About me

Have you been feeling anxious or depressed lately? Or wondering who can help your problem with stammering, functional voice or functional neurological disorder (FND)? Well done for taking the first step and seeking help. My background is as a Speech and Language Therapist and I work with adults with a range of challenges affecting communication; I also support people with no speech/language difficulties. Many functional problems cause, or stem from, emotional problems such as anxiety, depression and trauma. I can help you understand how the brain works when under stress, and how the powerful mind body link can cause our bodies to malfunction. I help clients to address these issues and find ways to cope in as few sessions as possible. I can also help you to resolve trauma in a fast, safe and effective way, using the “Rewind Technique”. Please check out my website or contact me if you’d like to know more about this.

Human Givens Therapy addresses what all humans need to flourish. It’s ‘a given’ that in order to survive, we all need air to breathe, water, food and shelter – those are physical needs. In addition, we have basic emotional needs such as security, a sense of control over what happens to us, a sense of purpose, giving and receiving attention to others and belonging to a social group. If these needs aren’t met, how can we be emotionally well? I can help you understand how to use the resources you were born with -but might not know you have- to take back control on your path to recovery.

Testimonials

“I have suffered for a long time and struggled to see a way forward until I met with Elizabeth. In my first session I could hardly speak I was feeling that low and lost. Elizabeth guided me back to a safe and comforting space and put little steps in place to help me not get overwhelmed. Elizabeth has been incredible, and I have left every session feeling heard, calm and with a newly formed focus on how to make a difference. I cannot recommend her enough. Hands down the best therapist I have ever been to.
Human Givens is for everyone in my opinion and Elizabeth even more so. Know that the hardest step is asking for help, as once you connect with Elizabeth there is no looking back."

Marketing Consultant (trauma, ADHD and depression)

“In her position a Speech and Language Therapist and a Psychotherapist, Elizabeth was unique in her approach. It was not even matter of marrying the physical and psychological, it felt more like she did not separate them in the first place. This I found to be an extremely effective way of working.”

Teacher- (functional voice disorder and trauma)

"Human Givens therapy is definitely worth doing, it made me think about how I was feeling. I enjoyed and found benefit in the relaxation and breathing techniques. Elizabeth offers a range of tools, and you can decide what works for you. It’s solution focussed. I enjoyed the sessions, because it’s a straight-talking approach that made me reflect and consider a different perspective."

Retired teacher (anxiety)

“I found the Human Givens therapy to be an immensely helpful and practical approach to dealing with anxiety and depression. They provide you with tools to help you, but guiding you gently into self discovery rather than telling you what to do or trying to 'fix' you. It teaches you how to help yourself, rather than to rely on anyone else."

Artist- (depression )

"I have found Human Givens therapy very illuminating. It has helped me understand myself much better and it has also changed the way that I interact with people. My confidence and self esteem have also increased as I now have life long coping skills to deal with any stress and anxiety."
