About me

I’ve been working in the private sector to support people and organisations to grow since 2008, after 14 years in NHS mental health services and the Department of Health. I’m a qualified HG psychotherapist, exec coach and organisational development facilitator. Also trained in narcissism-aware therapy, gender dysphoria, complex PTSD, mediation, restorative practice, mindfulness, emotional intelligence, NLP and reiki. Outside of everyday practice, I co-chair the York Peer Group for Human Givens Therapists and am a trustee of the charity One Step Borders.

Clients feed back that I am calm, warm and approachable, that they feel comfortable and safe being themselves. I work respectfully and sensitively with people whatever they may be experiencing, such as longstanding or recent experiences of anxiety and depression, trauma, addiction, self harm or eating problems. You may be having relationship difficulties, challenges living in a blended family, be bereaved or want to explore important aspects of yourself such as gender, identity or neurodivergence.

We focus our attention on making sense of whatever’s happening for you, on building awareness, insight, clear goals and a genuine confidence in yourself and how you can use all of your resources to move forward. We can also help you to develop a better understanding about what is happening in your brain and body, your somatic awareness, awareness of your emotions, and how they drive your thoughts and behaviours. Sometimes our work includes learning how to be and feel safe within yourself as a foundation for building safer and healthier relationships with others. Above all, my aim is for you to leave sessions with greater hope, calmness, motivation and clarity about your next steps.

Testimonials

“I received counselling from Ingrid last year for 6 months or so and the work we did has been transformative for me. Although I haven’t had any sessions in the last six months I continue to draw on what I learned during those meetings and they’ve made a lasting positive impact on my life. Ingrid is personable, compassionate and really puts you at ease from the start. She championed me the whole way. Thank you.

Manager and mum to two boys (generalised anxiety, PTSD)

“I worked with a therapist using the armed forces charity. The military covenant is often talked about its not often implemented in my experience. I was matched with a therapist within two weeks, my wait with the NHS was 3 months. Ingrid gave me an excellent level of support and service. Catering her approach to my specific needs. Great service and made massive improvements to my mental health. Thank you.

Veteran (PTSD, anxiety, autism)

“Hi, I just wanted to thank you! I’m doing amazing, I’m 427 days no alcohol, I’m a Service Manager at the company I work for and I passed my driving test today! None of this would have been possible without you so really I just wanted to thank you for everything you did for me.

Service Manager in Healthcare (addiction, PTSD, gender dysphoria, anxiety)

"Firstly may I thank you for the treatments you gave me. I don't think that you would recognize me now compared to the person you met all those months ago. My confidence is back, I now enjoy meeting people and have even joined my local U3A branch. Best of all I have managed to put the worries of the past 42 years behind me and that is all due to you. Both my wife and myself are now about to restart our lives and get back to normal living."

Retired gentleman, veteran (PTSD, anxiety)

“I have suffered with my mental health and anxiety for a number of years due to personal circumstances. I have attempted other avenues in the past which have been unsuccessful and seemed to get fobbed off with medication changes. I have had a complete change of mindset and understanding thanks to Ingrid. I was given the opportunity to completely open up and get to the root of my problems, to which Ingrid listened profusely and made me feel so safe and welcome. My anxiety has almost completely disappeared and I have managed to completely diminish my ‘routines’ that I HAD to follow. Now for the first time in six years, I have a full night of unbroken sleep.”

Finance Manager (OCD, anxiety)

“Ingrid has helped me more than I can comprehend. Her flexibility and compassion have led me on the path to recovery. For anyone seeking help or guidance in life I highly recommend her.”
