About me

It is in the nature of life to throw up challenges and only human to need a little help from time to time. It would be my pleasure to help you gain new understanding and practical, strategies to support a positive way forward.

Whether you already know what changes you would like to see in your life, or aren’t yet able to see how things could work better for you, my aim is to ensure you leave each session feeling clearer, calmer and more resourceful.

Through talking together, we can deepen our understanding of your experience. From that wider perspective, we can identify practical steps to use your unique strengths to develop a more creative relationship with yourself, others, and the wider world. I will draw on psychology, story, metaphor and practical life experience to offer you a range of tools tailored for your success.

My earlier work with angry, hurt and anxious teenagers took me to inner city London and Bristol so I appreciate the richness and challenges of multi-cultural urban life. My recent focus has been counselling for adults, couples and teenagers in private practice. My home, however, has always been in the country. I find great peace in gardening, and a quiet life. I find great joy in friends, my blended family, and in nature; especially in swimming in the rivers and sea, and walking on Dartmoor.

I have an eclectic approach to my own spiritual path and hold a profound respect for all religions. My thinking is influenced by Buddhism,Sufism, Advaita, Byron Katie and Ramana Maharshi. I practice Mindfulness, Qigong and have studied alternative medicine, and draw on the richness of many cultures and philosophies.

It is important to find the right counsellor for you, so do look at my website for more information or please feel free to call me for an informal chat to see if you feel comfortable with me.

Testimonials

Frances was welcoming and warm on first meeting and her calm and careful listening made it easy for me to overcome my initial apprehension, having never previously sought counselling support. Frances not only helped me to see the problems analytically but guided me to find new approaches and responses. She was endlessly resourceful, providing observations, references and stories that were apposite and sometimes revelatory. My learning from her has influenced my life significantly and given me tools and ways of thinking that continue to help in all its aspects.

(Retired Social Worker)

I have made so much progress and can honestly say the sessions have changed my life. I am so grateful to Frances for her professionalism, her respect and invaluable insights and techniques which I will take with me for life.

(Paramedic)

I found Frances to be a very good listener and never judgemental or shocked by anything I told her. She has a knack of getting to the heart of a problem quickly and with great kindness and understanding. I would highly recommend her to anyone who wishes to understand themselves better and overcome difficulties in their lives.

(Retreat Centre Manager)

Frances is warm to meet and immediately gives a sense that your issues can be resolved. In the treatment series two deep issues of mine were identified, explained and resolved. Wonderful.

Working with Frances has felt wholly natural and has allowed healing in my relationship with work and powerful insights into my life outside of work. Her compassion, listening skills, and her ability to hone in on just the right word or phrase or story were the best possible combination of skills to help me through my recent difficulties.
