Our Registers
The HGI website is home to three ‘registers’ – our main Professional Register of fully qualified HG Therapists (which is accredited in the UK by the PSA), a Directory of Trainee HG therapists and the HG Supervisors Register.
Information on each of these is given below.
Professional Register of fully qualified HG therapists
You can search our professional register in two different ways – to find a suitable HG therapist in private practice, use the Find a therapist search facility. You will then be able to view therapists’ individual profile pages to decide who is best for you. There are HG therapists throughout the UK and in other countries too. Many also work online – as is shown on their profile pages.
If you would like to search the whole professional register, use the Complete Register option. This complete list includes all registered, accredited and senior accredited HGI members from the past two years – as well as those in private practice, it includes those in employed roles, those no longer practising (perhaps due to retirement) and those whose membership has been cancelled or has lapsed. For the benefit of the public, their current status, including whether they have any upheld complaints against them, is clearly shown next to their details.
All members still practising must be up-to-date with their Professional Membership of the Human Givens Institute – see: Registrant Requirements.
Directory of Trainee Therapists
Trainee human givens therapists working towards their full qualification (HG.Dip.P.), having successfully completed Part 2 of the HG Diploma, must become Trainee Members of the HGI. This means that they can practise under supervision to gain the therapeutic experience they need in accordance with the Institute’s supervision policy, hold appropriate insurance and are subject to the HGI’s Ethics and Conduct Policy and Complaints Procedure.
As they are not yet eligible to appear on the HGI’s official register of fully qualified HG practitioners, they can choose to be listed on our new Directory of Trainee HG Therapists. Being listed is not mandatory, but it is a good idea as it can help trainees find clients (most do not charge for their sessions, or only charge a small amount to cover their costs), and also reassures potential clients and/or any placements of their level of qualification and training, and that they belong to a professional organisation.
Trainee members are able to work with mild to moderate conditions (unless they have existing additional qualifications which enable them to help with more serious conditions), and will refer you on to a fully qualified therapist if they think you require more experienced help. If you are happy to see a Trainee, you can Search the Directory to find one near you.
The HGI requires that all trainee HG therapists and counsellors must always make it clear to their clients that they are working towards their final practitioner qualification (which must be completed within two years of being awarded Part 2 of the HG Diploma) and always describe themselves as a trainee HG therapist, practitioner or counsellor and use the designatory letters and description: HG.Dip.P (Trainee) after their name.
HG Supervisors Register
All fully-qualified and trainee HG therapists are expected to have regular supervision with an HGI-accredited Supervisor, in accordance with their membership category’s annual requirements, and taking into account their level experience.
Members can search the Supervisors Register to find a supervisor that suits their needs and has availability to take on new supervisees. Trainee HG therapists must work with a supervisor-tutor as they work towards their final practitioner level qualification (Part 3).
HG Supervisors are registered annually with the HGI and must attend regular supervisors’ CPD sessions throughout the year to ensure they are kept up-to-date and can best support their supervisees.
Complaints: The HGI takes the safeguarding of the public, and any complaints it receives, very seriously. Click here to find out how to raise a concern, should you have one. Details of any upheld complaints can be found here.
Please Note: some of our registered, accredited and senior accredited members also appear on additional psychotherapy or counselling registers.
