Taking on new supervisees

About me

When we so often find ourselves working as sole practitioners: the availability of a listening ear, a professional sounding board, further teaching/mentoring or the opportunity to share practice and collaborate creatively together, to come up with workable interventions that are ethically sound – we can see that supervision can assist in all these ways and more.

It is possible to look back over 45 years as an Occupational Therapist and a Psychotherapist since 2011, and see the key supervisory relationships that have made such a difference to gaining new knowledge; the ability to reflect on my practice; introduce alternative perspectives and grow my practice in a professional way. The absence of such a relationship has also taught me some valuable lessons. Having worked in the NHS and Social Services, including supervisory roles and alongside my private HG practice, I have experience of multidisciplinary working and involvement with various organisations in the charitable sector. Work abroad was initiating an emotional health and trauma counselling programme amongst refugees in Africa and supporting and guiding those involved. Learning from and working with culturally diversity, I find a joy.

Whether a mature practitioner or someone seeking support following their Part 2 and working towards their Part 3 – I am happy to help and indeed really enjoy the relationships that are forged as a result of this work. In recent years I have facilitated on the Part 2 and 3 courses, so that I am conversant with what is being taught by the HGC and the requirements for Part 3. Finding a supervisor that fits your needs at a particular time is a personal decision – and to that end I always encourage a free initial conversation so that both of us can establish whether working together will be a good fit. Testimonials

I asked Fiona to be my supervisor, as I felt we had shared experiences, interests and outlooks. During our few sessions, she quickly identified areas of HG therapy that already overlapped previous skills, and helped me to problem solve the more challenging areas of my learning. Through our discussions, new ideas evolve to make the progress seamless and exciting…our discussions have left me feeling inspired, with clear goals for moving forward.

Human Givens Trainee Therapist

I first had the pleasure of meeting Fiona during P2 of my HG Training, and her work truly inspired me. She is incredibly approachable, so when I needed to work with a supervisor, I reached out to her. …Since then, our regular supervision sessions…have been invaluable. Fiona has always been accommodating, often fitting me in at short notice. Her calm and reflective nature has been instrumental in grounding me in my somewhat overzealous approach to life. Her warm and encouraging approach and ability to challenge me when necessary have greatly contributed to my professional growth.

Human Givens Therapist (undertook trainee period and beyond with Fiona)

I work in a multidisciplinary team of various therapeutic approaches, based in Spain, working with clients all over the world and bring my own range of gifts and challenges to supervision. Fiona takes everything in her stride and our times are always encouraging, challenging and stimulating. She has a wealth of knowledge and understanding, is kind and patient and I always feel safe and comfortable about sharing my doubts, questions and concerns - so look forward to our sessions.

Accredited HG Therapist

I highly recommend Fiona as a supervisor. She encourages collaboration, creating a nurturing environment for discussion, learning, critical reflection, and professional growth. I appreciate her directness and honesty combined with warmth, empathy and a non-judgemental approach. I always feel comfortable discussing challenges and concerns knowing she will handle them with care and understanding. Fiona shares her extensive knowledge and experience generously and her advice and guidance mean I am always learning from her. I always leave a session with Fiona feeling supported, encouraged and more confident in my practice.
