Taking on new supervisees

About me

The word ‘supervisor’ can bring into mind someone critical who is looking to find fault with your work. I would rather refer to our work together as mentoring or consultation. I am here to support your development as an HG therapist by sharing my experience, offering ideas and, most importantly, creating an opportunity for you to reflect on your clients and on your practice.

Having had an excellent experience with supervision myself, I attended the first training course for supervisors that the HG college offered back in 2008 and have been enjoying mentoring HG practitioners ever since.

As I qualified as a family therapist prior to becoming an HG therapist, I can offer a unique angle for those of you using HG to work with young people, parents, families or couples. I have extensive experience of working both in schools and in child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHs) as well as individual work with adults.

Awareness of relationship and context is important in all my consultations with clients and I see this as one of my especial strengths as a supervisor. In my experience, the HG approach and the systemic thinking that underpins family therapy enrich each other to create a deeper understanding, especially in more complex cases.

I no longer offer supervision to trainees, working only with qualified practitioners. If you would like to consider our working together, please contact me.

Miriam has been my supervisor for many years. She has a wonderful balance of being supportive, stretching and enabling in her approach. Whenever I am feeling stuck or in need of a different direction or just some new insight to a client she gives it. There is a sense of mutual respect and trust, which is vital in the relationship of supervision.

I contacted Miriam after I completed Part 2. Because of my background in education, I was looking for a supervisor who had extensive experience of teens and families. Miriam then guided me through Part 3 and has been my supervisor ever since. I enjoy the constructive feedback and guidance I always get. No question is seen as too silly or irrelevant. The tips have been invaluable and I use them constantly. When those moments arise when I feel a little nervous or doubt myself, Miriam always finds a way to make me realise I am on the right track and I know what I am doing. She has been a fantastic mentor.
