We are deeply grateful to all our supporters and you, our members, for your huge contribution down the years to the success of human givens. You had the foresight to recognise HG’s value and to choose to train and work in it. To enable HG to take its rightful place as one of the most widely respected and used psychotherapies worldwide, we have been working hard to reorganise how we present our face to the world.

We have arrived at a thrilling point which should revolutionise our ability to raise funding for projects to spread the word about HG, enable more people to study it, more research and even more innovative applications of our approach.

Our human givens family of organisations – HG College, Institute, Foundation and Publishing – are going to transition from private ownership (which was easiest to set up back in the 1990s) to charitable incorporated organisations (CIOs.)  We have taken advice from a highly experienced social enterprise consultant who concluded, after full assessment, that our teaching, research, promotional materials and publications, along with our peer group and supervision structures, qualify us for charitable status – and that we are disadvantaged without it.

Indeed, becoming CIOs will enable us to access grants and funding previously not open to us, which will allow us to invest in projects that have been on hold for years, due to limited funds.

So it has been agreed that all the HG companies will merge their activities, with the immediate benefit of significant administrative efficiencies and the ability at last to dream big. Our wish list of projects include:

  • increasing access to all for HG treatment by training more therapists (with full and part-funded bursaries for those from backgrounds of hardship who could be excellent therapists and ambassadors for HG, if only they could afford training)
  • marketing ourselves more powerfully, making books, articles, podcasts and expert interviews available to a global online audience and offering regular, affordable public health education, UK and worldwide
  • funding randomised controlled trials, providing the most highly respected (but previously too costly) scientific evidence to show how effective our methods are.

Additionally, the more we raise our HG profile, the more work this will open up for you all.

This takes money

The transition process will cost a little over £30,000 and will start the moment that we have the necessary finances. The HG group has the capacity to fund some of this, but not all.

So we are holding a raffle!

We are inviting you, the HG community, to support us in this huge step forward by buying tickets for our first ever raffle, which will be drawn on Wednesday 23rd July 25. Here’s what you could win:

  • First prize:  1-hour online mentoring session with your choice of either HG co-founder, Ivan Tyrrell or Joe Griffin – value = priceless!
  • Second prize:  A free place at the next HGI in-person conference in 2026  – value of £400
  • Third prize:  An HG College online (or live online) course of your choosing – value up to £145

If you’re a professional member, all these prizes will contribute to your CPD.

Tickets are £25 each, with no limit on numbers you can purchase. Every single one bought gets us closer to our goal. If you care about our shared HG future, please do your bit now to help.

The HG tutors you encounter day to day are supported by small back-office teams who work tirelessly to keep the college, institute and foundation running efficiently and effectively. All HG board members give a considerable amount of their own unpaid time to do the same – all because we care about the HG organising ideas. We hope that you will want to play your own part in spreading the HG message and making an even bigger difference to the communities we live in.

In a world where fast, effective solutions for the emotional health challenges faced by so many are desperately needed, our goal in the end is simple: to help more people.

Thank you
The HGI Board
