Taking on new supervisees

About me

I am a practising HG therapist based in Orkney, where I also work as a mental health trainer using the Human Givens organising idea, and as a lecturer in Counselling at the University of the Highlands and Islands. I am also a qualified hypnotherapist and integrative counsellor. Prior to training as a psychotherapist I spent 15 years as a secondary school teacher and pastoral leader.

Supervision is an opportunity to explore your practice whether you are just beginning your HG journey towards part 3 or are an experienced therapist.

For the experienced practitioner, supervision is a chance to explore ideas, drill down into details using an HG lens and enjoy ‘borrowing a brain’. As therapy is often a solitary profession, these collegiate conversations are mutually beneficial, providing an opportunity for us to learn from each other and sense-check our work in the therapy room.

For the trainee or newly qualified practitioner I enjoy helping people find their own voice and style within the Human Givens framework. My teaching background means I am familiar with guiding people through their learning to a successful outcome. Sessions will be more structured to support the emerging HG therapist as they begin their journey. I am a firm believer that we bring our own unique skills to this role, rather than turning out therapists to be all the same.
