Thirty years ago I joined St. Leonard's Hospice as a volunteer befriender. It was the start, of my career in counseling and psychotherapy. The first text book I read was Elizabeth Kuber-Ross, Death and Dying.
Many psychology and counseling textbooks later, along with a collection of qualifications and continued professional development certificates I now work for the Maggie Oliver Foundation. An organization that helps survivors of sexual exploitation and human trafficking move forward to lead effective lives. I have received specialist trauma training with the organization.
Leaving my role as Government Welfare Officer I worked for a short period with the mental health charity Mind. An opening to secure funding to establish a niche Social Enterprise Company (SEC) supporting adolescents with challenging life prospects based on Human Givens therapies and psychoeducation was an opportunity I could not let pass.
As CEO I was accountable for the SEC's Safeguarding Policy and the safe storage of personal information as well as the SEC's confidentiality policy. It was also my responsibility to comply with other statutory obligations to keep my clients safe. This ethos continues in my private practice. I am also registered with PTSD resolution.
I currently welcome online and telephone sessions from clients. I see clients face to face in a garden room surrounded by trees and overlooking a golf course.
