Jennifer Susan Wakelin
My therapy is based on The Human Givens principles. This therapy is practical, solution-based and brief (usually 3-6 sessions of 1 -1.5 hour). Based on the evaluation of any blocks or unmet emotional needs which may stand in the way of leading a fulfilling life, together we work on practical solutions for restoring meaning and balance. It works from the understanding that each person has their own unique story.
Based in the Netherlands, I am a British psychologist, counsellor and coach with practices in the Amsterdam and Zwolle areas. I followed my Human Givens training in UK. I work in both Dutch and English. My particular expertise is therapeutic counselling and coaching in the areas of depression, stress, addictions, trauma and general "blocks" in work and social situations.
I also conduct 1 day workshops in these areas based on Human Givens principles and latest psychobiological knowledge.
I am currently the chairperson of The Society for Human Givens in the Netherlands.
Together with Renee van der Vloodt and Marijke Uiterwijk, I helped to set up Human Givens in the Nederland's. More recently, Sandra Tideman and Renee have been responsible for training and expanding our network of Human Givens Practitioner - colleagues in the Netherlands.
Additional to my private practise, I am a Human Givens Supervisor and trainer for Human Givens NL and for ELSDEN (addiction counsellors).
I have worked in addiction counselling respectively for the past 20 years, previously at Tactus 12 - Step Clinic (Apeldoorn - NL /8yrs.-) and Castle Craig (Scotland & Den Haag - NL / 4yrs).
I also run workshops (based on Human Givens and 12-step principles) for families of who have a member suffering from an addiction, the focus is on helping them to reclaim their own lives and to understand the addictive process. Recently I have been running a second series of workshops focussing on supporting young parents and their children.
My current career as psychologist and Human Givens Practitioner evolved from my working background of 25 years managing clinical development programs evaluating new medical therapies in psychiatry. Human Givens therapy is a practical enrichment of the psychobiological principles which were recognisable from my previous work; it translates this knowledge (with the guidance of the therapist) into measures which a client with can take to support their own recovery.
My subsequent work as Medical Director and General Manager for a European Clinical Research Organization (CRO) gave a practical insight into the stress - related problems in the work situation.
